As some of you guys know my son was a performer on Broadway. These kids worked very long hours during their runs and to remind these remarkable young performers that they too are just kids We became involved with a wonderful organization called Broadway Kids Cares.
BKC is Where all of the kids from the Broadway Shows would get together and be Kids with other children who were just like them. During His run, we met a lot of remarkable performers and their families and we became familiar with a few of the Lion King Children.
Shannon as Young Nala
To my dismay we found out that one of our Broadway Kids Cares family Shannon Tavarez who played young Nala in the Lion King was diagnosed with Leukemia.
This Wonderfully talented and spirited young woman lost her battle with the disease today. Which really touched me. As a woman of African American Decent and someone whose life has been touched by cancer. It shocked me to see how many people of color go and get swabbed to see if they can be a bone marrow donor.
Because of Shannon and her fearless fight to find a bone marrow match she brought awareness for the lack of suitable donors for people of color, hispanics and bi-racials in this country. So I ask in her memory that you get swabbed. Ms Tavarez’s Galiant Fight brought her cause support and admiration from Celebrities such as Rhianna, 50 Cent & Alicia Keys.
Shannon Tavarez
Keep in mind..If you don’t give, who will help you if you need. My thoughts and prayers are with Shannon’s family. Heaven Has gained an Angel.
Shannon Received an Umbilical cord blood transplant after a suitable Bone Marrow Donor couldn’t Be found.
