Before I take my shower I always examine my body. Looking at the areas I like and the areas that I don’t like so much. I can already tell at the age of 35, how much my body has shifted and changed since my 20′s. Learning to appreciate the changes as time goes on is not an easy feat!
One particular morning (which is not often) I looked at my entire body and admired what I saw. My freshly pedicured toes were shining and my body seemed perfect even with all it’s flaws.
The media and society has brain washed us to think that a perfect body can only be achieved through plastic surgery or working out like a maniac. I have no problem with some tweaking here and there, by going under the knife. But people have gone over board. Obviously being a fitness instructor I advocate working out but everything needs to be done in moderation.
We must realize that doing all these crazy diets and pushing our body above and beyond it’s limits will get us favorable results but then there is an issue of maintaining. We see the celebrities go up and down with their weight all the time. A regular workout routine and a portion controled eating regimine will do the trick. We all know when we are being excessive.
I found myself appreciating other people’s flaws knowing that it is what makes them unique. However I was not appreciating my own.
What we think is imperfect someone else thinks is perfect.
Tyra Bank’s forhead became her trade mark. I used to hate my nose because my brothers called me big nose as a kid(not everyone appreciates our uniqueness) but now I appreciate it.
If you constantly look in the mirror and are not liking what you see, you won’t start appreciating your body over night . Start by finding the things you like most and then go from there. Learning to appreciate your body will relieve the stress of trying to make it be something it’s not or something it will never be. Good luck!
What is your favorite body part you appreciate the most? Is there a part of your body you used to get teased about and then it became a part of your trademark? Is there a part of your body you will never appreciate? Has this article made you love your body more?
