To all of my lovely eloquent ladies that love to keep the werewolf down. Getting your eyebrows arched is a Definite Must! There are some basic things that you should look for when receiving this service from a qualified professional! I do have some insight on what the state requires your licensed cosmetologist or esthetician do in order to offer these services.
Notice I have clearly stated that a Qualified Professional, or someone licensed by your state board, should be waxing your eyebrows; and not your girlfriend that likes to do hair, because friendships can be ruined over a botched eyebrow job!
So the things that you should look for when getting an eyebrow service whether it be waxing, shaping with a razor, the threading technique or tweezing should go a little something like:
First your you should be placed in a reclining chair or at least half up right. If you are receiving eyebrow services sitting up you may want to upgrade.
You always want to discuss the type of eyebrow that is suitable for your facial characteristics. In other words if you are still shaving your eyebrows all off and using a black pencil to put them back on, your stylist, nor your friends care anything about you. You may want to get a new stylist and find some new friends!
A towel should be draped across you, and your stylist should proceed to wash their hand and put on gloves. Hand sanitizer will suffice but know that un-cleanliness is the number one reason people transfer colds and nasty little diseases..(Hint, hint).
Ok so this is where the techniques differ:
For tweezing:
A cotton ball with mild antiseptic (I love Dudley’s skin and scalp but the mild sea breeze, or witch Hazel will do fine) will need to be handy before tweezing begins.
The hairs should be tweezed in the direction of growth. If your stylist is going in any other direction stop them before they screw up further.
The tweezed area should be sponged frequently with the cotton ball moistened with antiseptic.Brows should be brushed in an upward position and shaping of the lower section of each eyebrow completed.After tweezing both eyebrows should be wiped with an astringent to contract the skin!
For eyebrow waxing:
This technique is is really the reason for me writing this article. A lot of women who receive this service, aren’t aware that they are getting it done incorrectly. Many ore blindly allowing their technician to do their eyebrows any kinda way!
Correctly Arched Eyebrows frame your entire face. And ignorance isn’t bliss when it comes to getting them done.
And the worst part about it is that, getting your eyebrows done in correctly could lead to significant skin damage.

Make sure they wash their hands and apply gloves!
Each eyebrow should first be cleansed with a mild astringent.
They will then test the temperature of the wax on the inside of their wrist.
For those of us with children, this is the area we use to test the baby’s milk before feeding them.
So those of us with stylist that aren’t mothers, help them out. Though the wax should run smoothly off of the spatula the wax SHOULD NOT be HOT!
If there is light spots or blisters, you may have been burned. With the wooden applicator, the wax will be spread evenly over the area to be treated again. Going in the same direction as the hair is growing!
BE SURE they are not using the spatula more than once! This is not an ice cream scoop ladies. DO NOT allow them to double dip! ! !
A new applicator is required for not only each for each eye but for each time wax is applied to the upper and lower areas of the eye.
I also work in the healthcare field and we tested a specimen for eye Chlamydia! Now you would not want this person to have been before you in line! YIKES
A sterile trip will be applied over the wax and fingers ran over the strip 3-5 times.
The strip will be removed in the direction opposite the hair growth.
This procedure will be repeated on the lower part of the brow and then to the other eyebrow.
This area should be cleansed with a mild emollient cleanser or antiseptic lotion (not alcohol or baby oil).
The Razor Technique
this is sometimes, thought to be considered a touch up. This technique is done as follows:
Hands washed and gloves applied
Eyebrow area cleaned
Razor should be fresh from the box.
Come on now don’t act like you have never seen your stylist use a personna blade to shape eyebrows on a client and then tell you come on too.
Clean eye area with mild astringent (not alcohol).
Apply an emollient cream, grease, oil, or desired softener to ensure the area isn’t hard before shaping begins.
Shape the upper brow, lower brow and then do the same to the other eyebrow!
Re-Clean eye area with mild astringent (not alcohol).
Beware that the area around your eyebrows might be sensitive. So you might have slight burning or tingling afterward. But this discomfort should be mild and it should soon subside.
For threading:
This technique is uniquely an East India, beauty ritual. Although it is also widely practiced in the Middle East. Eyebrow threading involves twisting a piece of thread, usually cotton, into a double strand.
This double stranded thread is used to pick up a line of hair and then remove it, creating a very clean, precise hairline. To Perform this technique, the practitioner, washes their hands. But unlike with the other techniques, no gloves are applied due to the technique being used. Threading requires maneuvering of the thread between the fingers. Gloves would hinder that movement.
The twisting and the rolling of thread against the skin cause the removal of desired hairs from the follicle therefore giving it shape. Threading is becoming more and more popular and my only request is that you watch out for smaller kiosks and people at home not properly certified but providing a service that requires. I do not want anyone to lay back with 2 eyebrows and get up having only 1!
