Remember that?   I come from the generation when the rule was good girls don’t wear red lipsticks.  But when I went to Maybelline’s gifting suite at Lincoln Center during Mercedes Benz Fashion week they gave me this beautiful red lipstick, “Very Cherry”

Which made me conscious of the fact that although I love the color I normally go for Nudes or my all time favorite shade,  Pink Patina which they don’t make anymore;  To say I’m upset about it, is an understatement.

I guess the other reason’s that I don’t wear red lipstick  is because of  My 8th grade science teacher Ms Green.  Ms. Green who was My “pleasantly plump” was a woman of a dark complexion, who would daily wear bright red – orange lipstick on a daily basis.

Coupled with her blonde wigs..needless to say she distracted the hell out of me, and traumatized me from even thinking of wearing such colors.  But the Freebie of NYFW had me thinking differently about wearing red lipstick.  As a black woman I had reservations about wearing  a bright red lip color.

But there are many lip color options for women of color.    If you like me need Help Choosing The Perfect Red, here are a few tips.

If you are a  women of color with a lighter complex You might wanna go for a red that is more of a darker shade. If you are a seriously fair skinned woman corals, pumpkin colors are also beautiful on you as well.

If you are Have a medium complexion like myself.    There are more color options that fit you. But stay to the red reds, or Deep Berries and not too far on the orange end of the spectrum.

The Darker the skin…the darker the Berry..If you have darker skin I would suggest that you focus on a red lip color that  has a darker base Berry, wine deep, Burgundy colors and HIGH SHINE…
